Has anyone here cleaned up the miter slots on a table saw? I have an old Powermatic 66. When I adjust the miter gauge so it fits the near side of the table, it gets harder to push as it approaches the other side. I am guessing this is because most cuts don't take the gauge all the way across, so the wear is greater on the near side.

I am wondering how to fix this. I could put the saw wings on the mill and use a slot cutter to take a couple of thousandths off the inside of the slots, but I thought I would see what people know before taking steps. For all I know, the resistance is caused by hidden rust.
